Alexa Rankings Are A Lot Of Fun To Watch!
I guess that I’ve always had a bit of a child like quality to me. I was somewhat of a game player in a lot of ways all of my life. So, why should I stop now? Perhaps, my age should be deterring me at this point in my life. But, why can’t you have a bit of fun? (if that’s what you can REALLY call it) Let me explain…
You see, I’ve used Firefox for the last 2 1/2 years. Why? For one, did you ever hear that old saying: “you can’t teach a old dog new tricks”…WELL! Also, I find it more secure than Internet Explorer.(haven’t tried 8.0, though) And, I like that I can have Firefox save the tabs of the sites that I was on for the next time that I start my computer. I LOVE some of the add-ons, especially the one called Alexa Sparky. THIS was the whole point of my post!
So anyway, I have Alexa Sparky installed on my computer. It shows up at the bottom of the screen. I know for sure that it ranks sites from #1(Google) to AROUND 25 million. I actually saw one above 25 million, but I don’t know just where it tops off. When a new website is launched, it shows up as ‘no rank’. As the site gains popularity, that number will gradually drop. (that’s what you want, in this case) You can right click on the number at the bottom of the browser & check traffic details, or just see an overview of the website. Alexa really doesn’t consider it ‘ranked’ unless it is 100,000 or lower. (But, I can see it change & that spurs me on)
I have NEVER seen any website that I was ever involved with move so quickly. I know that it’s because of having all of our websites (students of Alex Jeffreys) linked together AND linked to Alex! It’s under a million & a half right now…in less than 3 weeks. Sometimes, I’ll check my site in the morning & when I look again in the evening it will have changed.
If you would like to keep tabs on your site & don’t have Firefox, you’ll need to search Google for the ‘Alexa ranking tool’ for whatever browser you are using.
HAVE FUN!!!! Then, check out all of the other cool things that you can find out on Alexa.com!

Thanks for the tip Joann, I didn’t know about that plugin, I think I’ll install it soon, will be interesting to watch my sites ranking changing.
I already use Firefox, it just seems so much faster at loading pages than IE.
Take care,
Paul.
Joann says:
Hi Paul,
Yes, I like it-I believe that you will to. I stumbled upon another add-on for Firefox that you might find helpful, it’s called session manager. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2324 Here’s what it does: saves and restores the state of all windows – either when you want it or automatically at startup and after crashes. Additionally it offers you to reopen (accidentally) closed windows and tabs.
I LOVE that one too-I’ve closed windows & tabs accidentally & what a pain trying to restore them!
Thanks so much for stopping by to visit, Paul!
I wish you the best-take care,
Joann

Hi Joann,
I actually read this post yesterday, but got sidetracked at work and could not reply. But I love seeing the numbers, too.
Your Alexa rating is doing awesome, and I have noticed that your visitors are averaging 15.7 minute stays on your blog. That’s amazing.
Another cool tool too, it SEO Quake, it’s like Alexa but a bit different because it gives you the stats of all of the sites that you draw up in search engine results.
Thanks for writing this post, I get a kick seeing my stats everyday, too.
Take care,
Karen
Joann says:
Hi Karen,
I installed SEO Quake & I can’t wait to check it out further tomorrow. I think it sounds like it is right up my alley.
That’s kind of funny that people are hanging out on my sire that long…maybe it’s because they are trying to
I am enjoying watching ALL of our blogs drop in Alexa rankings…I know that
figure out what I am saying.
it really is helping that we are all tied together AND to Alex!
Thanks for stopping back to visit, Karen-I appreciate it!
Take care-I wish you the best,

Thanks for the add on Joann. I tried it just now and my site is 6,190,203. I guess I have away to go. I find myself getting a bit more optimistic as we go through Alex’s class. Hopefully big things are ahead.

Joann says:

Hi, Joanna, I am student of Alex as well.First of all I would like to tell that you have great design of your blog.I really like it!
About Firefox.I was using it for about 1.5 years and last month I noticed that iot became very, very slow. When I was turning my PC on in the morning I had to wait more than 1 minute till Firefox will connected.I was re-installing it twice and nothing happened.I asked my friends who are working in Computer Field and they told me the same. On their advice I switched to Opera and now am very happy. It is not just working very fast, it is flying like spaceship.I recommend it to everyone.
Joann says:
Hey Rob,
Let’s not get carried away-tech genius…no way!
But still, I appreciate the comment, Rob! I immediately installed the plugin that you recommended…I KNOW that whatever you suggest, I should jump on it! You have been such a help to me from the very beginning & you really can’t know HOW much it is appreciated-THANKS ROB!
I wish you the very best-take care,
Joann
Joann says:
HI Anatoly,
Thank you SO much for stopping by to visit my site & for the kind comments about my blog design. I also appreciate that information about Opera. I’ve heard very good things about that browser & will most definitely keep that in mind IF Firefox starts ‘playing games’.
You know, I had some problems with a couple of versions of Firefox recently, however the one that is installed currently is working very well. Never hurts to have a backup plan, though!
I wish you the very best, Anatoly-take care,
Joann

Hi Joann,
Your blog is very inviting and a good read! I’m going to pop over Alexa after this, Karen mention SEO Quake. What do you think? I’m trying to limit the number of add-ons.

Hi Julie,
Thanks very much for stopping by & also for the nice comment. You know, Karen is right-SEO Quake gives you not only the Alexa rankings, but an awful lot more than that. It shows links, both internal & external, as well as Google page rank just to name a few other things. If you are trying to limit add-ons…definitely, just add the SEO Quake!
Thanks again for visiting, Julie!
I wish you the best-take care,

Barbara Harvey´s last blog ..Finally it all seems to be going smoothly
Joann says:
Hi Barbara,
Thanks for coming back to visit-I appreciate it! You will like watching your rankings drop, I don’t now who wouldn’t. The Alexa add-on is not obtrusive either, so you don’t have a lot of clutter on the screen like you do with a few other add-ons.
Take care, Barbara-I wish you the very best!

Hello Tom,
Thank you for coming to visit my blog-I appreciate it! Sometimes, you can be putting a lot of effort into something, but not be able to watch the results come in. With this add-on, you can at least SEE the progress that you are making. (or not)

I like being able to see progress being made, so I really do like this add-on. I’ll keep you posted if I come across any others that I think you may like.
I wish you the best, Gil-take care,

Veronica Purdey says:
Very enjoyable posts and will try to instal the Alexa bits. Have used Firefox since it started as it’s much more reliable than IE. I’m also a follower of Rob Canyon as he seems to have some very nice things on his blog and is such a helpful person.
Veronica Purdey´s last blog ..Still a way to go………
Joann says:
Hi Veronica,
Thank you for coming by to visit me today-I appreciate your comments. Rob is an absolute sweetheart…he just keeps giving of himself, as well as his vast knowledge. I am so grateful to him, as well as a few others from our class.
Yes, I totally agree about Firefox being so much more reliable than Explorer…that is so important.(to me, at least) I was told that Opera is actually better than Firefox, but I am content with Firefox, for now. I’ll keep an eye on Opera & it’s gaining popularity, though.
I wish you the very best, Veronica-take care,
